Authorities Unveil Further Details of Fatal Poway Crash, Revealing Tragic Circumstances

SAN DIEGO — Authorities released more information on a fiery crash in Poway that claimed the lives of five individuals last Friday afternoon.

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office informed that three vehicles were part of the fatal incident that occurred around 12:30 p.m. on Friday, July 18, on State Route 67, to the north of Iron Mountain Drive and east of Poway.

A Chevy Silverado pickup truck, heading north, inexplicably veered into oncoming traffic at a considerable speed, initiating the tragic sequence of events.

The pickup collided head-on with a white Honda Civic containing one individual traveling south on SR-67, while a Toyota Tacoma with three occupants couldn’t avoid the collision and struck the Honda.

The impact of the crash propelled one vehicle down a ravine, triggering a minor brush fire by the highway. Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames, although the cars suffered significant damage.

All five individuals across the three vehicles lost their lives at the crash site. Detectives are delving into the circumstances that led to the pickup truck crossing into opposing lanes, utilizing video footage acquired from a Tesla passing by.

Although family members identified Marcial Rivera, 59, and his son, Emmanuel Rivera, 32, fundraising initiatives for the other three unidentified victims are yet to be announced by the authorities.

Authorities encourage individuals with information to contact the Poway Sheriff’s Station at 858-513-2800.
