SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A chaotic scene unfolded in Escondido Saturday night as an overturned Jeep, engulfed in flames, brought traffic to a halt following a DUI crash.
The dramatic incident took place on the northbound Interstate 15 on-ramp to the eastbound State Route 78 around 6:26 p.m., as confirmed by the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
CHP revealed that the SUV driver was speeding recklessly at a staggering speed exceeding 100 miles per hour. The SUV swerved erratically and collided with a Jeep, causing it to flip over and ignite in flames.
Amidst the chaos, two individuals were rescued from the blazing Jeep by a brave passerby and rushed to the hospital with minor injuries. Both the SUV driver and a young passenger were also hospitalized for minor injuries, accompanied by a law enforcement officer.
Following medical care, the SUV driver was apprehended on felony DUI charges and placed in custody at the Vista Detention Facility.
